Sailing
Cowes
Week is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world,
now hosting over 40 races a day for over 1000 yachts.
Competitors range from world class professionals
to weekend sailors who come to enjoy the unique mix of sailing
and social activities. It is genuinely a one-of-a-kind event-
come and see for yourself!
Day Racing
We will be racing Koru (our Beneteau First 36.7) during the Week with
a ‘base crew’ who have experience of racing at different
levels and on different boats, from dinghies to 50ft Oysters!
As
part of the racing, we provide a training day so that, by the
time we cross the start line, we are working well as a team.
We don’t expect to be first across the finish line, but
we will have had much fun around the course.
For the training day, you can either join us
at our marina in Gosport the previous evening as we talk tactics
and positions, or early the following morning. We will head out
into the Solent, without delay, to begin our practice. Upwind
sailing first and then moving onto the spinnaker. We will be
making the most of the day, before returning to our marina early
evening.
Over
the Race Days we will be based in Cowes so we will meet you early
from the Ferry/Fastcat as we head out for some practice. We will
then have a 4-5 hour race around the buoys in the Solent before
returning to our berth at East Cowes.
If you are staying just for the day, you are
welcome to join us for the evenings social events, before saying
goodbye. Alternatively, if you are staying for more than one
day, then you will stay on Koru.
What is included?
The
cost of our Cowes Racing Days includes accommodation on board
your yacht (if staying for more than one day), breakfasts,
lunches and our now famous homemade cake. We tend to eat ashore
in the evenings so that everyone can stretch their legs (this
cost is not included) or you can cook for yourself on the boat
if you wish.
Our yachts are generally vegetarian. Breakfasts
and lunches will be warm, tasty and filling but will not contain
meat! By eating ashore in the evening a non-vegetarian diet can
be catered for.
The
cost of mooring fees is included in the price of the event.
Upon booking you will receive your Joining Instructions
which provide a suggested list of what to bring. Sailing waterproofs
are an important item, whatever the time of year, as they keep
you warm and dry. We have these for you to borrow, free of charge.
You are likely to have most other items on the list and we encourage
clients to travel light because of the limited storage room on
board.
Your
Joining Instructions will also detail where to find us. We sail
from Royal Clarence Marina in Gosport which is easily accessed
by road (it is 20 minutes from the M27 at Fareham) or by train
to Portsmouth Harbour (from Waterloo).
We look forward
to sailing with you!
