Listen to our chat about women's racing with
Charlie Crocker of Radio Solent (June 2009)
How
do you fancy a very special opportunity to do some racing with
an all female crew? It is great fun and very exhilarating since
there are very few yachts that are raced entirely by women.
As part of the racing, we generally provide
a training day (or two) so that, by the time we cross the start
line, we are working well as a team. We don’t expect to
be first across the finish line, but we will have had much fun
around the course.
Womens Open Keelboat
Championship (WOKC) 03-05 July 2009
In 2008 we entered this inaugral event with Koru and we had a really
fantastic weekend. Eighteen yachts participated with all female crews.
Some crews were very obviously used to racing together, and they pulled
in the trophies. We won the prize for the 'team who had the largest learning
curve', for which we were very proud. Read

It
certainly isn't all about winning, it is about doing your best
and having fun. We are positive that in 2009 there will be other
women who feel brave enough to enter, albeit that, like us, their
team have not raced with each other much before.
Beneteau
Cup20-23 August 2009
This race in Cowes is the Holy Grail for all Beneteau owners. Join us
as we race Koru (our Beneteau First 36.7) , with an all female crew,
amongst other cruising and racing yachts from the same boat builder.
We
meet on Wednesday evening or early on Thursday morning for a
day of training, before heading to Cowes for the briefing and
sailing instructions on Thursday evening.
We then have three great days of races in the central Solent, followed
by plenty of social activites in the evenings!
Cowes
Week Racing Days 31 July-02 August 2009 Join
us to race Koru for the first weekend of Cowes Week with an
all female crew, following one day of training.
It is totally awesome racing in Cowes Week.
We have over 50 yachts on our start line!
Over the Saturday and Sunday we have a 4-5 hour race around the buoys
in the Solent and there is plenty of fun shoreside each evening!
New for 2009-
Join our 'Passion for Racing' womens team We
would like to build on our 2008 racing season by creating a
core womens team.
If you have the passion and enthusiasm for racing and would like to be
part of our racing team, we would love to hear from you!
We are a growing number of women who want to race while also having fun.
If you can give us your committment to practise
and if you are keen to race in two major Solent race events in
2009, then please make contact. Places are limited!
What is included? The
cost of our Womens Racing includes accommodation on board your
yacht, breakfasts, lunches and our now famous homemade cake.
We tend to eat ashore in the evenings so that everyone can stretch their
legs (this cost is not included) or you can cook for yourself on the
boat if you wish.
Entry fees and mooring fees are included in
the cost of your racing with us and we will also ensure that
you receive a complimentary team polo.
Our
yachts are generally vegetarian. Breakfasts and lunches will
be warm, tasty and filling but will not contain meat! By eating
ashore in the evening a non-vegetarian diet can be catered for.
Upon booking you will receive your Joining Instructions
which provide a suggested list of what to bring.
Sailing waterproofs are an important item, whatever the time of year,
as they keep you warm and dry. We have these for you to borrow, free
of charge.
You are likely to have most other items on the list and we encourage
clients to travel light because of the limited storage room on board.
Your
Joining Instructions will also detail where to find us. We sail
from Royal Clarence Marina in Gosport which is easily accessed
by road (it is 20 minutes from the M27 at Fareham) or by train
to Portsmouth Harbour (from Waterloo).
We look forward to sailing with you!
